In line with its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), Redeemer’s University has continued to strengthen its outreach beyond the campus walls, taking knowledge directly to the people who need it most.

One recent highlight was a community healthcare training and awareness programme jointly hosted by the university’s faculty and students. The free, open event welcomed participants from surrounding towns and local institutions, marking another milestone in Redeemer’s University’s ongoing efforts to undertake educational outreach activities beyond campus.

Held at a community centre near the Ede campus, the programme featured tailored lectures and practical demonstrations on preventive healthcare, first aid, hygiene, and wellness management. Health science students worked alongside medical and public health lecturers to design sessions that were both informative and practical, ensuring that attendees left not only with new knowledge, but with the confidence to apply it in daily life.

According to the organisers, the outreach was conceived as part of a broader mission to extend university learning to the wider community. “Education does not end in the classroom,” one of the programme coordinators said. “As an institution, we believe our responsibility includes equipping communities with knowledge that can improve their quality of life.”

Participants included traders, local school teachers, youth leaders, and community health volunteers, many of whom commended the university for bringing accessible educational opportunities to their doorstep. The sessions on personal hygiene and nutrition were especially well received, providing practical steps for families to improve health outcomes through small daily choices.

The initiative also gave Redeemer’s University students a chance to apply their learning in a real-world context, reflecting the university’s emphasis on voluntary student-run schemes that foster civic engagement and leadership.

Through this and other outreach efforts, Redeemer’s University continues to exemplify the spirit of SDG 4 by ensuring that education contributes tangibly to community wellbeing. The university’s educational outreach activities beyond campus demonstrate its belief that learning is most powerful when it inspires positive action and transforms lives, one community at a time.
